Just a Thought

If anyone has seen the posts that have been going around with the "No Excuses" tagline, that shows women that are cut, lean and gorgeous and are insinuating that if you don't look like the image below, then you are less than successful and beautiful. However, we all have to know that being comfortable with our body, but are able to be healthy, then we should see ourselves as people with no excuses.

Granted, she looks amazing and I'm sure that she worked hard for her results, but we all don't have the body types, motivation or want to look this way, and feel shamed into feeling that our curves are less than pretty. Below is the photo response from a women in Australia that caught like wild fire, and shows that being emotionally and physically healthy should demonstrate out beauty inside.

So no matter your curves, know that your health is what matters; that we come in all shapes, sizes and abilities, and that makes us all different with different expectations.

Some Popular Motivation

Per my usual troll through the internet, I stumbled upon this amazing Buzzfeed article that listed quotes and sayings that actresses said at one point or another about body image, and their viewpoint on societies reaction. I found it hysterical and had a coming to truth moment because it all shown a light on the issue that society highlights: perfection is expected. By having members of our pop culture give words of wisdom to our generation shows that confidence can come with just loving who you are.

Here are some that really stuck out:

People to Look Up To

If your like me, Social Media and Pop Culture plays a large role in how I view myself and my body. I watch the Victoria Secret fashion show and see the confidence and joy that invades each models face, causing an infectious happy feeling to warm my body. Now, I know we all see the VS girls as untouchable, perfect people that remind us of everything we aren't, but we cant think that way. Instead, watching the fashion show should remind us of the power, confidence and excitement that comes with their walking down the catwalk; much like what a graduation, job promotion or fitting into a coveted pair of jeans.

Just look at the joy in their faces. They show us that no matter what you look like, you can rock your size. All the above models have different body shapes, and yet they wear their outfits with pride. So I challenge everyone to watch the show this year and watch it with a smile on your face and focus on the beauty of the show, and not the comparisons, because we all are beautiful in our own way.

Bringing Awareness

Whether we know it or not, Someone in our lives has been touched by an eating disorder. Its hard for someone to come right out and confess the demons that plague their lives everyday, but it is a struggle that goes unnoticed much of the time. Recently, we have seen in the media, and push for awareness for this terrible illness, as well as more advocates being candid about their struggle.

Below are some inspiring ways to bring awareness to the people around you, or even help for you to discover your own path towards recovery:

We need all have a place that we go when it comes to dealing with difficult situations; whether it be physical or emotional. Having an eating disorder isn't something to be ashamed of, but rather somewhat that can teach you to be stronger, and allow you to learn to love your body and all isn't part. Below is the website for the National Eating Disorder Association, where you can find the help and information you need. You are never Alone.

5 Things

Having 5 things to use as tools for positive mental health is the first steps to building confidence in yourself. Below are some suggestions when it comes to emotionally taking care of yourself:

1. Self Talk
It may seem strange, but looking yourself in the mirror and listing all the things you LIKE about yourself can do wonders for your self esteem and body image. By focusing on the positives, over the negatives, you are able to slowly start to shift your mindset. The more you say something, the more you begin to believe it!!

2. Journaling
By finding a journal that speaks to you, whether it be the color or design, and writing your feelings or thoughts down, it allows for an outlet for pain, happiness and joy. Journaling is a way to either write the traditional Dear Diary, or a list of things you want to get out of your busy mind, that almost gets rid of the thought by putting in a safe place.

3. Reminders
I am a person that has to put reminders all over my apartment to remind myself of things i have to do or need to remember. Therefore, by putting reminders all around where you live and are a lot about things you love about yourself or just a reminder to have positive self talk, will give you a chore that is both positive and productive!

4. Dance Party
Ok, so this is a wild card. Some people don't enjoy dancing, but i always find that when I'm having a bad day, that putting in some headphones and jamming out to TSwift gets the endorphins going, which we all know helps us feel better. Whether it be a walk in a local park, bike ride on the beach to a dance party in your jammies, movement gets the positivity goin!

5. Feel Good Movie
When life is literally going a million miles an hour, i find that taking a on hour break to watch movie that makes me laugh and relax really helps me to feel relaxed; and when relaxed i feel that i can be more refreshed and confident in my abilities. If we never get a break, we end up forgetting about taking care of ourselves, which is not beneficial to our psyche.

Finding Your Center

Lets face it ladies, being busy is one of the craziest parts of life. Between school, boyfriend/girlfriends, social life and errands, we forget that having a healthy mindset comes from feeling centered and finding a moment to ourselves. By meditating, it gives you the opportunity to center your being, and focus on the important things, while leaving you refreshed and content with yourself. Below is a video on Meditating, and different ways to relax throughout your day:

Personally, i love Michelle Phan. She is a rags to riches person who is completely self taught, making her the perfect person for us to listen to (not a super model endorsing a product that makes us feel worse about ourselves!)
